Lectionary Bible Study (Bible Workbench)

open bibleThis scripture discussion is every Sunday at 9:00 am. Lectionary Bible Study takes a vacation during the summer.

A workbench sounds like a lot of careful consideration and building is going on and this in-depth study of the weekly lectionary is no exception.  Yet even when we are expert at the “bench” we learn something new every time we approach the scripture – about the Word of God and about ourselves.  Discussion is sacred, safe, serious, spirited and yet we are able to laugh at ourselves as we learn.  Whether you are a “Bible Expert” or have never opened a page of the Bible before, if you want to go deeper into what you hear in church, you will be in the right company “at the bench!”  Light refreshment and coffee/tea are served.

The Benedictine Way

st-benedict

Following the way of Benedict, on Thursday afternoons Grace parishioners following in the way of St. Benedict come together for prayer and reflection on the rule.  We begin with Noonday Prayer from the BCP, followed by our program of studying “The Benedictine Rule” and spirited discussion.

Studying The Rule of Benedict provides a guide for living the Christian life in a meaningful and intentional way. The Rule offers a plan for living a balanced, simple and prayerful life, and participants find many ways to apply this ancient Rule to our everyday modern lives. All are welcome to join in at any time; there is no beginning or end.

The Daughters of the King

The Daughters of the King (Las Flores de Jesus – The Flowers of Jesus) is a lay order that meets twice a month. Throughout the year, the Daughters also send out handmade cards to homebound members for Easter and Christmas and help with church mailings.

Retreats and Quiet Days

Retreats and Quiet Days are offered on a regular basis, with a Spring Women’s Retreat. We also offer an annual Lenten Quiet Day as well as special events related to faith formation. Information on upcoming events will be posted on this site.

The Catechumenate

Historically, catechesis was a time of getting ready for baptism. Today, it is that still, and it is also a time of spiritual preparation in general. During our time together, perhaps you will be getting ready confirmation, perhaps you will simply seek a deeper connection with Jesus and with our worshiping community.

This year, we will meet on seven occasions during Lent, beginning on Wednesday, March 8, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We’ll share a meal at every meeting. Our time together will focus pretty heavily on prayer – we’ll explore different methods of going into silence and listening for God. We’ll also write a spiritual autobiography, learn about baptism, the Eucharist, the Creed, Anglican history, and scripture. Time allowing, we may even do an art project together.

The Catechumenate will also meet on: Saturday, March 11 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm; Wednesday, March 15 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Wednesday, March 22 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Wednesday, April 5 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; and Saturday, April 8 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Please email Father Martin at MartinE@grace-memorial.org if you would like to take part in the Catechumenate.
